Rehab/Update 'Tomorrow seeing the Surgeon'

Hey all,
Just a quick one today...
I finally see another surgeon tomorrow morning for an opinion and recommendations going forward with the last MRI result in mind.

'Collision and Rehab timeline To date'

Hello all :D XxX

Extremely sorry for lack of posts this week. I have just been a little tired and spent in trying to organize and find

19 Jan 2014

'MRI Hip 02 RT and LT Both (14 months post RT Hip surgery, 24 months post collision)'

After 2 months of progressive worsening of the Left hip/side coupled with swelling of RT Hip not diminishing any further horizontally again. I made a visit to my GP demanding an MRI of both hips. This isn't good enough. I had done everything asked and as a health professional I know some-things wrong still.

'Rehab Annoyance Surgeons Letter - RE 2013 full of swelling Discomfort/Still visible'

Okay the 3rd cortisone into the greater trochanter bursa (albeit post surgery this time a year after the pre surgery cortisones administered) requested by the surgeon was performed in November last year 2013 via Ultra Sound.

For I saw the surgeon again in November 2013. He told me I had glute tendinopathy, not to ice, not to touch glutes, not to stretch etc. That it had to be left alone to heal and he didn't know how long that would take. He also mentioned I had residue Bursitis RT hip from the Surgery a year ago (I was a bit annoyed that it hadn't been picked up sooner and treated after the surgery - I mean a year later!?!) Upon checking hip it was still tender/limited.

'Rheumatologist Report - Swelling Discomfort/Still visible'

Aug 16 2013 Rheumatologist Report and 2013 full of swelling/bruising and unhelpful non conclusive advice. Despite 75% loss of the attaching Ligamentum Teres and severity labrum/pelvis of injury so forth, I should have surpassed the swelling/bruising etc within months of arthroscope.

Yet I have spent all of 2013 swollen and bruised. The swelling was progressing down to better gradually post surgery and then stopped to about 2 inches laterally, forcing my Op RT Hip up higher than my LT Hip.

I saw numerous specialists about this concerned including the surgeon who operated the hip joint and a Rheumatologist. No one requested follow up imaging/MRI despite slowness in recovery/healing. When I saw my Surgeon and asked 'When will the massive deformity of lateral hip 2 inch lump go'? he said he didn't know and that it's usually not a question his patients ask. I'm a highly trained trainer and athlete who cannot afford the swollen discomfort and visible deformity - which restricts normal gait/movement.

After 12 months of this I saw the surgeon again in November 2013.

Rheumatologist Report below...

'MRI Hip 01 RT (4 months RT Hip post collision)'

Actual 1st Post Collision MRI Results 10th July 2012 of Right Hip (4 months RT Hip post collision)

After being rammed side on off my bicycle on the bike path March 2012 - I couldn't feel my RT leg fully along with RT Knee confirmed Grade II injury Lateral aspect) I couldn't control or walk with a normal gait being reduced to crutches. Acutely swollen, I had described the road attack accounts (side of Taxi chassis/passenger door contacting the RT side of my Hip/Glute, Knee/Tib/Fib deliberately on impact) to various initial medical professionals (bar my long term GP).

They seemed to be only concerned with my knee and the Emergency ward of the hospital only X rayed my knee on the day of collision. I was convulsing and couldn't feel/felt disconnected from my R Leg/Hip.

'Strapping, more cortisone and aggravation of LT leg/hip'

My goal previous 11 month post surgery Nov last year -
'To completely resolve the swelling inflammation of smashed then operated hip/glute by Jan Feb 2014, progress' I was side lined, post cortisone for 4 to 6 weeks with walking even limited for 10 minutes. I also cannot fully rehab/load actual glute hip until all swelling's resided.

Before my 3rd cortisone shot into the Greater Trochanter Bursa Operated R side I started strapping the bruised Glute for diagnosed Glute tendinopathy. I've included a pic of the bruising below.
... Bruising of injured/operated Glute R side, sorry bad lighting, its black, close up red brown on the left. This is preventing my physio from doing work on my glute, it's still healing 22 months post collusion and the Ultra sound in

16th Oct 13 Rehab update - TAC denying medical requested treatment for Whiplash/Head pain & the Trochanter Now is needing another Cortisone/ultra sound

Hi all... A REHAB very quick update. Been a busy past week to push through treatment requested for the neck - whiplash by my GP/Physio/Surgeon. Need this to get to the next level of rehabilitation. It's been a 5 week exercise and was told today that the TAC insurance company doesn't accept and wont pay for it. It's now hand passed to my lawyers Maurice Blackburn.

I've only been able to do some rehab at home in the past week half due to the rehab of neck roadblock pending further treatment. I admit after 18 months of this nonsense it did break me today. I want to be able to go out like everyone else, wear my heels, dance and have a social life. Not have to travel by reclining in Taxi everyday to medicos and rehab only...

Coping PTSD

As many of you know from the attack I sustained last year I have ongoing PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome) to deal with/manage. Allot of our soldiers have to deal with this as a result of Traumatic events. But what many don't know it can result from a collusion or an attack like in my case. I guess what makes it hang around is depth of physical damage for me. I feel this mental response is a natural and even beneficial state to ones survival, but its no good long term. One of the best ways to manage this condition is to remove the urge to fight or be on guard with certain brain training techniques and coping management. To me crap is an essential by product of life "It's how you deal with it, that counts"

Diminishing this fight/adrenal trigger has been the biggest challenge for me, for I have to fight daily in isolation for;
  • To keep my company (my baby I worked hard to build previously) - even if just - alive so I eventually have something to go back to when I have full movement restoration
  • Every time I have to explain why I cant do something or when people asks what happens "I end up reliving and retelling the experience with all the emotional reactions as if its happening again" Thank GOD for Heahphones and baseball caps :DDDDDD
  • My injuries prevent me from having a normal life and therefore the sense of being forced to stand still when your a go getter (18 months now - 2 years to go in rehab) makes me angry and want to fight but there is no direct adversary in front of me, that I can take on right here and now
  • The Pain and discomfort reminds me constntly of the attack
  • The physical scarring reminds me daily of the attack
  • With My first (Of what I feel's going to many court cases) wont be until early next year (2 and a half years post collusion/attack) and we are preparing for the first one all the way up to the end of this year
  • I actually have to fight daily, so to be delusional and ignore that fact would be to the detriment of my psyche
  • My weekly timetable is full of ongoing Medical, Physio, Psyche appointments ongoing, along with Insurance company related and
    ... My Recent Fab Buys
awyer/court case related (I could be dealing at any point of time 10 medicos in a week - poking prodding questioning and me reliving/retelling) which is time reinforcing the current state of mind which detracts from where one needs or wants to get to
  • My injuries and legal responsibilities prevent me from going back home to Spain to see my family and in these past 2 years I've really needed/wanted to see them - but am forced to do it it tough on my own
  • Most nights I dream of being where I was before the attack and actually wake up as though I still had my pre-collusion body and abilities not to mention social life
  • The missing chunks of muscle I've had all my life that are now gone actually feel as though I'm missing limbs/parts of me
  • Mentally I'm an athlete and have been all my life, so my single mindedness in this matter pushes me to fight and push through anything and everything I have to

... So with all that in mind what do I do to contain/treat PTSD and Hypervigillence?? I;

  • See a Sports Psyche/Psychotherapist weekly (If you've experienced or someone you know has "A Traumatic event that keeps reliving or interrupts

Recovery Updates, Pre Injury Post surgery Progress Pics

IMPOSSIBLE
How do you say it? Impossible or I'mpossible :D
Food for thought...

Hi all, just a quick line to say I haven't forgot you all. I haven't been able to blog daily like a I usually do due to all the extra medicals I've had to do this week and most likely the next few weeks :p Can't wait to get through em. Getting through daily rehab & trying to get quality of life back is hard on time constraints as it is.

It's been tough this week I'm coming to terms with the findings of the Rheaumatoligist saying I still have a 2 year slog ahead of me to get my body and normal life function back. Reason? I didn't have my injuries fixed straight away & he said the 3 to 1 rule. If I was fixed 1 month post collusion it would of taken me out & taken 4 months to get back. But because I didn't get the required surgery until 10 months post collusion, it turns out to be a couple years to get back post surgery (a total of around 4 years of my life - 17 months gone already) I've done 7 months - 2 years to go. How would you feel if something that should of only taken 4 months out of your life was dragged out for 4 years with added pain suffering to not just you but your company, your family abroad etc. Going with my own experience/education the timelines of recovery are about right with my rates of progression.

I went to vote early yesterday & had to change my address whilst there. I was told to press my pen down harder on the form by the staff, But I didn't have the strength in dexterity to write down hard enough to print through the forms carbon. One of the staff had to write for me (I'm right handed) My whole right side from toe to face hasn't been the same since the collusion. I'm getting there but its a long journey. It was such a silly thing that we take for granted that we can do & when its not there... Whoah. I locked myself in the public toilet, cried my eyes out, then washed my face, tied my shoelaces. Before walking to the baths & doing all 4 hours of my rehab followed by walking & practising gait restoration home (75 minute walk) with back pack. Ahhh Resilience, being pushed right down and then getting back up. I definitely need to look into relieving the whiplash though more effectively and managing the pain which is travelling to & paralysing my facial muscles. Will let you know what happens there. The case manager I have now has actually been so good in following the requests of my treaters unlike the the last one I had.

In the Toorak Shed back in 2010 putting my per-iodized training plans together to do my first figure show, with

27th July 13 Quick update on Physical Rehabilitation/Progress... Setback/Hospital emergency, More investigating, Fuerza developments & Progress, Ethical Business Shout out

.. Meanwhile the furball is practising her favourite Asana :)
Morning all :DD Its Saturday & I've just had my awesome steak for Breaky with Flamenco drifting through the apartment, getting set to have my first day back in the physical rehabilitation centre/gym after being forced to rest & heavily medicate.

As most of you know one of the injuries I sustained from the Vehicle attack last year was 'Chronic Whiplash' C1/C2. Treating this has made an overall negative impact of the recovery of my anterior lateral aspect of hip post surgery & medial lateral aspect of knee to name 2 of the most prevalent.

The most important thing for me in regards to the Whiplash is for neck & forehead muscle to relax & not hold tension. Its been 16 months since I felt no tension, tenderness or tightness in my forehead/eye-socket musculature generating from the neck C1/C2. I'm celebrating the day my neck/face feels normal again LOLO :p

B4 & After Surgery inside the hip Joint

Bundled up & repaired labrum joint cushioning... LOLO
Im held together by rope & anchors :p
B4 & After Surgery inside the hip Joint, showing work done & severity of 2 of the major things fixed as well as they can be. Please note fixing is one thing, but restoring previous strength in balance & ranges of movement is another. The latter frustrates you & is so time consuming. One of the most frustrating things I've come across is limitations of multiple injuries. Ie I should use the cross trainer to assist the labrum cushioning to strengthen but I cant because my knee still feels like its going to blow out (it was still bruised through/tib fib from the impact of the vehicle side on according to MRI done 12 months later) I want to do bridges or tush pushes but its excruciating on the hit knee, so I'm limited to 1 movement to strengthen glutes. Albeit I still don't perform this movement well for I still don't have the range or strength to hold my hips square.
Please note if your injuries are fixed straight away, you wont have to deal with the amount of difficulties I have. I was hit in March, I didn't get MRIs until July for I was told it was all in my head (they said the pain I was feeling shouldn't be there & gave me drugs for complex regional pain syndrome - basically totally misdiagnosed) It wasn't until late November (9 months later) that the fragmented (fractured pelvic acetabulum rim) & other hip injuries was fixed. I spent a total of 11 to 12 months straight on crutches, instead of what should of been gradual assistance weaned of over 12 weeks post surgery. I was released from hospital the next night to a deemed unsafe apartment (deemed by independent physical therapist) with no qualified nurse or stay in carer. I continued to bleed out through op sights for 6 weeks & was left to change my own stitches & dressings. Also, the swellings through my skull & facial muscle pain was only diagnosed recently as whiplash at C1 & C2. Whiplash needs to be treated straight away or it becomes long term.

The reasons why I didn't get the surgery sooner? The TAC (Transport Authority which insures our roads & collects vehicle registration revenue) wouldn't let me have the surgery sooner. I had to fight daily, on my own in a foreign country to birth, stuck here away from family & sisters who are on the other side of the world. I had to email, call etc. Its the hardest thing to do when your dizzy & struggling with balance to then concentrate to articulate appropriate conversion with those in power above you trying to deny or get out of responsibility for what of using the facility they provide (roads) has cost you. I still fight now, for ongoing health care. I'm sooo hoping this changes for I've finally got a new case manager. 15 months post collusion I'm completely, utterly mentally & emotionally spent, I really don't know how much more my body & mind can take.

"Just because I look okay or better than normal it dosnt mean Im not suffering... physically & mentally. It may not look it but I'm fighting for my life." NRC

So, here's the pictorial on 2 things addressed in surgery (The labrum & ligamentum teres) At the end of this pictorial I will list my pre-collusion activities & daily work which I need to work hard to get back So without further a due lets Start off with the torn ligamentum teres....

The ligamentum teres holds your thigh bone centred in the hip joint capsule, mine was torn nearly completely off being, here all the surgeon can do, he cannot re-attached the torn of ligament. Just tidy & debrid it to stabilize what is left.

Close up action, the left side is completely torn off & frayed. This is where the taxi driver connected to my body when he rammed me side on, as well as connecting with the side of the knee/tib/fib.

I'm left with only 25% of this ligament. This ligament helps & is critical balance which is making rehab of the labrum work alone longer than usual & more complex. A dancer (as most of you know from Adelaide days "Dance was a great part of my life" working for Vicarp productions, multiple venues & styles, along with teaching contemporary at penbroke & seymores. As a former dancer who danced for fun & to train - going through this loss of ligament is heart renching. I believe I will get my pre collusion abilities back but the time it will take will be long. Great caution is always adhered for if I tear that remaining 25% I'm literally f'd :- As a yoga & pilates instructor everything I teach is limited by this ligaments health alone. But Im pushing on, Im aiming to be able to sit with my legs crossed by this October (like school kids do) & to be able to stand with my hips balanced square within the plumb line.
Now for the next big surgical fix...... The Labrum tear

The labrum cushions the thigh bone pivot joint is attached to the superior aspect (furthest away from midline) it should look like a horseshoe or C curve (AS you see mine look like tattered cotton wool)
The tattered labrum being anchored & roped

The labrum is roped into the shape it should of been in. Without this tissue every step or movement you make is bone on bone, hence why this totally killed. An arm you can put in a sling a weight bearing joint like this hurts bad, with the smallest of movement or none, even with crutches
Things I did before the road attack that I'm working on or yet to work on to get back, Working/sporting career, Health & happiness;

  • Run my business with personal training/coaching/class instruction & by example
  • Personal training demonstration of all movements (There's over 760 versions of a crunch but I can only do demonstrate 1 as an example, I need all function back to gain new clients & train up staff)
  • Fuerza classes (To attain new corporate business I need to be able to demonstrate all pilates yoga & sports core/stretching movements in the Fuerzapro classes. I have held onto 1 corporate client through this trying time for they'd been instructed for 1 year prior to the collusion the same classes & can get away from me being able to physically demonstrate)
  • Body build (Its been 15 months since I've been able to build heavy lifting my muscles & still have a fair way to go yet. How I look now is I guess my damaged/mis/disused state which looks normal to most but is a far cry from what I achieved post collusion. I refuse to be punished & accept this as my long term physical state. I worked hard before the collusion for my aesthetically pleasing body & I'm not fully recovered until I have that back.
  • Ballet contemp/classical, Hip hop/Funk, Flamenco/Latin (Even though I wasn't working as a dancer any-more I still danced & prepared to fully connect with my body & translate an ever evolving interpretation to movement - invaluable to benefits transitioned to my coaching of even a bicep curl at work)
  • Yoga Iyengar - Basic movements till to attain include Sitting legs crossed (happy pose) , on heels (hero pose)
  • Roller blading
  • Horse riding/equestrian
  • Tennis/pennant
  • Martial arts & pistol shooting for mental strength & coping
  • I cycled daily over 40 ks total in commute, instead of driving (don't hold a licence) but I don't feel safe on the road & it will take justice served for me to be able to feel safe on a Victorian road again. I also have had a horrible experience with the TAC over the past 15 months thus far & wish never to deal with them again, I just cant. I'm 37 & was hit at 36. By the time I get my life back save my business fully, Ill most likely be late in my 38th year & legally who knows. I don't feel safe trusting the Tac's action should something happen to me on the road again, so in all logic at this point I will never drive any vehicle or bike on a Victorian road again. 2 years & permanent loss is enough don't you think?
  • When I wasn't on 2 wheels I walked everywhere non stop but am struggling still beyond 15 minutes
  • Rock climbing just for fun but now I really want to climb with my Uncle Ron when I see him again (Its been 25 years since I've seen him - was torn from family at a young age then estranged/lost)

"There's nothing I can do as I did before I was attacked,
but I'm working on it daily"

My other little sister Sandra (In Gibraltar) who I only found early last year also, we've spoken but I'm yet to meet her...

I have sooo many beautiful cousins who I long to meet.... I will post them up next time. I cannot wait to hang with them in Gib, it hurts to talk to family that you cant hold onto or lean for they're so far away....

Thank you all XxX for sharing with me & I hope insight to my journey/times has helped in understanding

April 2013 Weekly Training Split... Meso 02

Mesocycle 02
Weekly Training Split
Rehab focused...

Surgery took a long time to recover from & still to this day my Op side is still a little more tender to lay on (Hard flooring at this point) the non-op side. This is partly due to surgery being performed 10 months after the break inflicted/collusion & also pro-longed mis/dis-use (Crutch usage the whole time) fighting the TAC with Lawyers for the approval of surgical intervention. Not to mention the earlier St Vincents Hospital/Treater's/Medicos not listening to me & Misdiagnosing my injuries.
